زمینه: انسان در جوامع مدرن در معرض سطوح قابل ملاحظه‌ای از انتشار میدان‌های الکترومغناطیس (EMF) با فرکانس‌های مختلف قرار دارد. اثرات نوروبیولوژیکی میدان‌های الکترومغناطیس موضوع بحث و تحقیقات بسیار گسترده‌ای در طول چند دهه گذشته بوده است. بنابراین ما اثرات EMF را برروی یادگیری بینایی و تغییرات آناتومیکی نواحی هیپوکمپ و پره فرونتال (PFA) را در میمون‌های رزوس نر مورد مطالعه قرار دادیم.

مواد و روش‌ها: در این پژوهش، 4 میمون رزوس نر گونه ماکاکا مولاتا در معرض میدان‌های الکترومغناطیس با فرکانس‌های 5 و 30 هرتز با شدت 7/0 میکروتسلا به مدت 30 روز، روزانه 4 ساعت قرار داده شدند. تغییرات حافظه و یادگیری بینایی یک هفته قبل و یک هفته بعد از دوره پرتودهی با استفاده از باکس طراحی شده که حیوانات را برای به‌دست آوردن پاداش به چالش می‌کشد، مورد آزمایش قرار گرفت. همچنین تغییرات آناتومیکی مغز میمون‌ها با استفاده از تکنیک تصویربرداری تشدید مغناطیسی (MRI) یک هفته قبل و یک هفته بعد از پرتودهی اسکن شد. میمون‌ها با تزریق داخل عضلانی کتامین هیدروکلراید (20-10 میلی‌گرم بر کیلوگرم) و زایلوزین (4/0-2/0 میلی‌گرم بر کیلوگرم) بیهوش شده و با استفاده از دستگاه تصویربرداری در سه سطح کرونال، آگزیال و ساجیتال در فاز T2 و اسلایس‌های با ضخامت 3 میلی‌متر اسکن شدند. تغییرات آناتومیکی نواحی هیپوکمپ و پره فرونتال با تکنیک حجم سنجی مورد بررسی و مطالعه قرار گرفت.

یافته‌ها: قرارگیری در معرض میدان الکترومغناطیس با فرکانس 30 هرتز موجب کاهش تعداد پاسخ‌های صحیح در فرایند یادگیری و تأخیر در شکل‌گیری حافظه در دو میمون مورد آزمایش شد. در حالی که فرکانس 5 هرتز تأثیری بر تغییرات یادگیری و حافظه بینایی نداشت. هیچ تغییر آناتومیکی در ناحیه پره فرونتال و هیپوکمپ در هر دو فرکانس مشاهده نشد.

نتیجه‌گیری: میدان الکترومغناطیس با فرکانس 30 هرتز موجب اختلال در فرایند یادگیری و حافظه بینایی می‌شود، که احتمالاً این تغییرات را از طریق تأثیر بر فاکتورهای دیگری به غیر از تغییر در ساختار و آناتومی مغزی اعمال می‌کند.
