زمینه: شیرین بیان (Glycyrrhiza glabra L., Fabaceae)، گیاه دارویی شناخته شده‌ای است که به دلیل فعالیت فارماکولوژیکی در طب سنتی مورد استفاده قرار می‌گیرد. شیرین بیان در داروهای گیاهی به عنوان عامل نیرو بخش، اکسپکتورانت و تسکین دهنده کاربرد دارد.این گیاه دارای فعالیت‌های آنتی‌اکسیدانت، تحریک کننده ایمنی، آنتی‌آلرژیک و ضد زخم می‌باشد. در تحقیق حاضر، مقایسه اثر عصاره اتانولی ریشه گیاه شیرین بیان با گلی‌بن‌کلامید بر میزان فعالیت آنزیم‌های کبدی در موش‌های صحرایی سالم و دیابتی شده با آلوکسان مورد بررسی قرار گرفت.

مواد و روش‌ها: در مطالعه حاضر، تیمار خوراکی عصاره گیاه شیرین بیان (50، 200 و 400 میلی‌گرم بر کیلوگرم وزن بدن) و داروی گلی‌بن‌کلامید (600 میکروگرم بر کیلوگرم وزن بدن) به عنوان داروی استاندارد ضد دیابتی، به مدت 30 روز صورت گرفت. سپس فعالیت آنزیم آسپارتات آمینوترانسفراز (AST) و آلانین آمینو ترانسفراز (ALT) در موش‌های صحرایی سالم و دیابتی شده ارزیابی گردید. داده‌ها با استفاده از نرم افزار SPSS ویرایش 10 و آزمون آنالیز واریانس یک طرفه مورد ارزیابی قرار گرفتند.

یافته‌ها: تیمار خوراکی عصاره گیاه شیرین بیان به صورت معنی‌داری فعالیت ALT و AST را در سرم موش‌های دیابتی کاهش داد ولی در موش‌های سالم تغییر معنی‌داری ایجاد ننمود. عصاره گیاه شیرین بیان همانند گلی‌بن‌کلامید موجب کاهش معنی دار میزان فعالیت آنزیم‌های کبدی گردید.

نتیجه‌گیری: گیاه شیرین بیان را می‌توان به عنوان کاندید مناسب برای مطالعات آینده بر درمان دیابت ملیتوس در نظر گرفت.
