زمینه: گردشگرانی که به‌طور دائم در سواحل حضور دارند، به عنوان عامل اصلی‌ ایجاد آلودگی سواحل خلیج‌فارس در بندر بوشهر شناسایی شده‌اند. در پاسخ به این مسئله، برنامه جامعی جهت پاکسازی ساحل توسط مرکز تحقیقات بهداشت محیط سیستمی و انرژی با همکاری ارزشمند دانشجویان دانشگاه علوم پزشکی بوشهر انجام شد. هدف اصلی این برنامه افزایش آگاهی و آموزش زیست محیطی گردشگران ساحلی بود.
مواد و روش‌ها: در راستای اجرای مؤثر این برنامه، یک بازه زمانی خاص در ساعات اوج حضور گردشگران در ساحل (18:15-19:15) در تاریخ 24 اردیبهشت ماه 1402 و مکان شناخته شده پارک مرجان در سواحل خلیج‌فارس به طور استراتژیک انتخاب شد و پسماندهایی که توسط گردشگران در ساحل رها شده بودند در طول دوره برنامه پاکسازی جمع‌آوری گردیدند.
یافته‌ها: در طی این مطالعه مقادیر قابل توجهی از پسماند‌ها شامل 7622 ته¬سیگار (1/66 کیلوگرم)، درپوش‌های بطری، بسته‌بندی‌های یکبار مصرف غذا، بطری‌ها، اقلام پلاستیکی مختلف، سری یکبار مصرف قلیان‌ها، شیشه‌های شکسته، نی¬های نوشیدنی، تورهای ماهیگیری، طناب¬های پلاستیکی و پوشک نوزادان که توسط گردشگران ساحلی رها شده بودند جمع‌آوری، تفکیک و دسته‌بندی گردیدند.
نتیجه‌گیری: یک دستاورد قابل توجه این مطالعه، مشارکت فعال و پر شور شرکت کنندگان در ساحل به ویژه کودکان بود. مشارکت آن‌ها عاملی مهم در کسب نتایج مثبت این برنامه تلقی گردید. همچنین، برای تأثیرگذاری بیشتر، پوشش رسانه¬ای صدا و سیما باعث افزایش تداوم و کارایی برنامه شد.
