Aging is associated with reduced bone mass in men and women. Women loose about 35% of their cortical bone and 50% of trabecular bone since middle of 2nd decade of life. Subsequently, bone mass reduction increases fracture in women. Femoral bone fracture is associated with chronic low back pain, scoliosis, limited range of movement and more hospital admission.Prevalence of osteoporosis is increasing. It has been estimated that direct therapeutic costs and indirect costs due to reduced economical productivity of osteoporotic patients will increase 2 or 3 times. Moreover, it is also estimated that more than half of femoral bone fractures’ of the world will occur in Asia. Therefore, there is need to further explore different aspects of osteoporosis locally. This book reviews physiology, diagnostic methods and different treatments of osteoporosis. It also discusses pathophysiological and diagnostic complexities of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis essentials are presented in combination with its new therapeutic findings. Therefore, the book could be used as a comprehensive tool for improving and updating current knowledge of readers about osteoporosis.
